hi my name is Matt Smith and I'm the principal of Edgecombe Early College High School this year is Black History Month theme is I am black history to me it has never been more critical that we acknowledge how interconnected we all are as a society we should all care about black history and the Social Challenges that we face turn our country when it comes to race we should also all care about gender issues the struggle of immigrants in America and the desire of all Americans to create a better life for themselves name for their families this year more than ever I hope each early college student will truly embrace the spirit of Brotherhood and Sisterhood that comes with this powerful statement I am black history I am black history I'm black history I am black history black history means a lot to me it's about rejoice it's about celebrating it's about honoring our ancestors who paved the way who showed us were standing on right now black histories of utmost importance to me because black history Simplot the recognition of African Americans as a race black history to me means taking a moment to learn about taking them on me to to take a moment to celebrate and honor those who have given us perennial hope  what I think about Black History Month and makes me think about my ancestors and the people that came before me that paved the way for me to be where I am  I am black history because I am going to say of my ancestors I'm living proof of what my ancestors fought so hard for it and now it's here  we learn from my past  we learn from what I have done for us and we take what we have learned and we at on it in our present we go to work  Time Joyner to bring hope I'm join the fight to make a difference in minority communities through hope through education and through action don't underestimate the power of Dreams did your dreams take you forever you see you use our talents that God has given you and all that you can be in all that you can become it's about working this not quitting things is an action to devote creating something that gives your your life meaning and give your life purpose the fate of our world is in the hands of my name is Raymond privette my name is Ricky Hil I have door and I am black history we are black Carmelite history I am power I will grow just like a flower I am Martin I am Malcolm no mystery because I am black history as Martin Luther King once said even if your call to be a street sweeper in life you sweep those streets as Michelangelo painted pictures and you do it so well that even at the end of your existence that all of the some heaven will pause to say that here lies the greatest street sweeper who ever lived and he or she did his job well I know that will because I know that you can blessings and peace thank you  thank you all for coming in German I want to thank all all participants for giving your time  I want to thank our community Aaliyah Montrell Hill for his leadership on this project and also senior Emily break for her creative talent that bring this important message to life thank you
