EECHS Graduate Competencies

Durable skills—also called graduate competencies—are vital abilities that equip students for success in college, careers, and beyond. At EECHS, we are committed to developing the 10 EECHS Graduate Competencies, which we believe represent the core outcomes of an EECHS education.

Adaptability

Definition: Adjusting to change with resilience, flexibility, and a willingness to try new approaches.

Think: "The project didn't go as planned, but I'm open to changing course and figuring out a new solution."

Collaboration

Definition: Working effectively and respectfully with others to achieve shared goals.

Think: "I'm listening to everyone's ideas and working proactively to help our group succeed together."

Communication

Definition: Expressing ideas clearly and confidently while actively listening and engaging with others.

Think: "I speak clearly, write effectively, ask questions, and listen actively to understand and be understood."

Creativity

Definition: Thinking imaginatively, generating original ideas, and approaching problems with innovation.

Think: "What if we tried something totally new? Let's brainstorm ideas and find a unique solution."

Critical Thinking

Definition: Analyzing information deeply, solving problems strategically, and making reasoned decisions.

Think: "I'm going to look at the evidence, question assumptions, and think it through before making decisions."

Empathy

Definition: Understanding others' perspectives and acting with compassion, kindness, and respect.

Think: "I wonder how they're feeling? Let me try to see things from more than just my perspective."

Integrity

Definition: Acting with honesty, ethics, and strong moral character—even when no one is watching.

Think: "I'll do what's right—even if it's the harder choice, and even if no one else notices."

Learner's Mindset

Definition: Embracing curiosity, persistence, and a love of learning; growing through feedback and challenge.

Think: "I don't know this yet—but I'm willing to try, learn from mistakes, and keep going."

Personal Responsibility

Definition: Owning actions, managing time and goals, and demonstrating accountability and initiative.

Think: "It's on me to stay organized, meet deadlines, and take charge of my own success."

Service Ethic

Definition: Contributing to the common good of my community through my words, deeds, and example.

Think: "I am committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those around me."
