hi there this is principal Matt Smith from Edgecombe Early College High School thank you for your interest in our wonderful school this screencast will share if you some general information about our early college we are a collaboration of three entities Edgecombe County Public Schools Edgecombe Community College and the North Carolina new Schools project we are a public high school that is hosted on the campus of Edgecombe Community College  there's a specific opportunity available to Edgecombe early college students who earn a high school diploma and a two-year associate's degree in a five-year time at the early college at no cost to you we focus on several design principles that guide our work the first of those is a commitment that all students ready for college when they graduate from our school the key to that we believe is the power of teaching and learning and also the power of a personal best learning experience at our school we have focused on redefined professionalism through our professional enrichment activities and also site-based leadership listen to principal's office and in the teacher classrooms and finally everything we do follows a purposeful design that reinforces the five previous design principles so what makes us so special we are a 5-year program as opposed to the traditional 4-year program we have a very family Locust atmosphere our classes are small which allows for personalization we focus on differentiating The Learning Experience for every child in other turns your child get to a your child needs we have personal relationships with our families very high academic expectations and most importantly to me highly qualified teachers in every classroom who are committed to making sure your child is challenged to reach his or her potential  so a few nuts and bolts about the Early College we have a bridge week for new freshman that is a transition program over the summer  our students are expected to perform service learning which 20 hours of volunteer work each semester  we have a house seminar program where we do a number of different activities our students are given the opportunity to attend college tours and visits the goal they're being to get students on a college campus and let see that up close and personal we have an early college Reeds program which is a silent self sustained independent reading program that we believe promote literacy Lifelong Love of reading we individualize are scheduling twice-a-year we're families come in and meet our counselors and make plans for the next set of classes students can take Community College classes here and we have a technology-rich environment  a few other key tips about the Early College we do have transportation available to all of our students who live in Edgecombe County who have a free breakfast and lunch program just like traditional schools and students have no tuition or book fees as they matriculate through our program and earn that two-year associate's degree star model with early colleges very simple is 5 words be yourself and leave completely changed and that is our commitment that all students celebrate their into Duality here while we also go through a personal transformation process to help you graduate ready for work ready for college and ready for a prosperous thank you very much please get in touch with us if you have more questions about our school
